Greek government must take leading role in the Cyprus issue – Christodoulidis

President Christodoulidis says it is important that the Greek government not only supports the efforts to restart the negotiations, but also takes on a leading role.

He was commenting on the meeting of the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres.

‘We welcome this effort and are in full coordination,’ he said.

Earlier this month, an envoy for Guterres embarked on efforts in Nicosia to resume the Cyprus peace negotiations.

Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar said she was ready to contribute to the resumption of the peace process.

During her visit, she met with Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar separately.
