Cyprus police uncover massive haul of weapons in cemetery

Police in Cyprus have dug up a massive haul of weapons at a cemetery in Oroklini, near Larnaca. The find is being described as possibly the ‘largest amount of weapons and explosives found to date in Cyprus’.

The find came after a tip-off, leading to a police swoop on the burial ground. Officers moved in when two men arrived at the cemetery and were recorded ‘moving suspiciously’.

According to police spokesman, Christos Andreau, the weapons – including a pistol, shotgun, rocket launcher, pistol silencers, IED’s and ammunition – are currently undergoing forensic tests to determine if they have been used in previous crimes.

Two people, aged 45 and 36, are being held in custody for questioning.

One of them was seen moving a ‘large bag’ from a grave in the cemetery.
