Cyprus issues new ‘yellow warning’ as temperatures rise, risk of fires

The Department of Meteorology has issued a new yellow warning for extremely high temperatures for today, Tuesday.

Effective from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The maximum temperature inland is expected to rise to 42 degrees Celsius.

At the same time, the Department of Forestry announced that the risk of forest fires igniting and spreading will remain at red alert level.

It is forbidden to light a fire without a permit since it constitutes an offense which, according to the Forestry Law of 2012, is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to 50 thousand euros.

If someone notices smoke or fire, they are asked to call 1407 or 112 immediately.
