Cyprus: Hemodialysis Unit at Paphos Hospital begins operations

The new Hemodialysis Unit at Paphos General Hospital has been brought into service.

Speaking earlier, Dr. Lakis Giukkas, Director of the Nephrology Clinic, said that everything was working smoothly during the first day of operation.

In hemodialysis, a machine filters wastes, salts and fluid from blood when a patients kidneys are no longer healthy enough to do this work adequately. It is one way to treat advanced kidney failure and can help patients carry on an active life despite failing kidneys.

Paphos General Hospital is the district’s main medical centre. The facility is designed to offer to patients first aid to MRI Scans. It was opened in 1992.
