Erdogan aims to strengthen Türkiye’s relations with neighbors

he Turkish government aims to strengthen Türkiye’s relations with its neighbors based on a “win-win” approach, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday.

“Despite interventions from third parties suggesting otherwise, we have worked to strengthen our relations with our neighbors, based on a win-win approach,” Erdogan said in a speech in the capital Ankara where he announced the 2023 foreign trade figures.

While Türkiye has taken its relations with the Turkish-speaking countries to historical peaks, it has also established relations with Europe and America based on mutual respect, the Turkish leader said.

The country’s relations with African and Latin American countries have already made progress and gained new dimensions, he said.

“We have shaped our foreign policy with a Türkiye-centered but global perspective, and there is no turning back,” Erdogan said.

In 2023, Türkiye’s exports reached 255.8 billion U.S. dollars, a 0.6-percent increase compared to the previous year, he said.

Türkiye’s foreign trade deficit has narrowed by 3.2 percent in 2023, Erdogan said, as the country reached the highest export figures in July, August, October, November and December.

“Our foreign trade deficit has continuously narrowed year-on-year in the last seven months of the year except for July,” Erdogan said.
