Christodoulides welcomes appointment of new UN Cyprus envoy

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has welcomed the decision of the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, to appoint María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, as his personal envoy on the Cyprus problem.

Her role will be to explore the prospect of the resumption of talks from the point that they stalled in 2017 at Crans-Montana.

According to an announcement from the Presidential Palace in Cyprus, President Christodoulides ‘remains focused on continuing to work with clear political will for the resumption of talks on the agreed framework, as well as for the conclusion of the talks with finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, on the basis of the resolutions of the UN and the principles and values of the European Union’.
